Far-ir and Mm Properties of Quasars

چکیده
We use photometric data, from the optical to the mm, for a large sample of optically selected radioquiet quasars, at low and high redshifts, to test emission models from circum-nuclear dusty torii around them. Model parameters, such as dust mass, temperature distributions and torus sizes are inferred, under the assumption that the dust is heated only by the central nuclear source. Dependences of best-fit parameters on luminosity and redshift are studied and the contribution of dust in the host galaxy to the observed fluxes is briefly mentioned. Only tentative conclusions can be drawn from this yet large dataset and detailed modelling, because crucial spectral information is missing at wavelengths where the QSO dust emission is more prominent, i.e. at λ ≃ 50 to 600 μm. Poor information in this wavelength range affects our understanding not only of the high-redshift objects, but also of the low-redshift sample. We then expect fundamental contributions by the FIRST mission in this field, which is obviously related to the more general one of galaxy formation.

Formation of Spheroidal Galaxies: the Sub-mm View
The intensity of the Cosmic Far-IR Background and the strong evolution of galaxies in the far-IR to mm wavelength range demonstrate that the bulk of starlight emitted during the early phases of galaxy evolution was reprocessed by dust. Therefore, the optical view of the galaxy formation process is highly incomplete and biased, and must be complemented with far-IR/sub-mm observations. We review ...

We present the ISO far-IR photometry of a complete sub-sample of optically selected bright quasars belonging to two complete surveys selected through multicolour (U,B,V,R,I) techniques. The ISOPHOT camera on board of the ISO Satellite was used to target these quasars at wavelengths of 7.3, 11.5, 60, 100 and Max-Planck I. für Extraterrestrische Physik, Postfach 1312, 85741 Garching, Germany, ema...

I review the far-IR to mm-range spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of local Seyfert galaxies, low red-shift quasars, high redshift quasars, and ultralumi-nous IR galaxies. Within the limits of current knowledge , the sub-mm SEDs of all these classes of object are identical, despite drastic diierences at shorter wavelengths. They are also to a rst approximation identical to the SED of the well...
متن کاملThe far-infrared emission of radio loud and radio quiet quasars
Continuum observations at radio, millimetre, infrared and soft X-ray energies are presented for a sample of 22 quasars, consisting of flat and steep spectrum radio loud, radio intermediate and radio quiet objects. The primary observational distinctions, among the different kinds of quasars in the radio and IR energy domains are studied using large observational datasets provided by ISOPHOT on b...
متن کاملHow many active galaxies and QSOs will future Space Missions detect ?
Averaged spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of active and starburst galaxies from the 12μm sample in the Local Universe and quasars, from an optically selected sample at a mean redshift 〈z〉=0.7 are built from optical, near-IR and far-IR (IRAS and ISO) photometric observations. These SEDs are then used to predict at various redshifts the number of Seyfert type 1 and type 2, starburst, normal g...
